Thomas Edward Schmidt, 66, of Northford, CT died peacefully at the West Haven V.A. Medical Center on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of twenty two years to Patricia (Vitello) Schmidt. Tom was born in New Haven, CT on August 5, 1957, a son of the late Russell and Bernice S. (Schipper) Schmidt. He grew up in Hamden, and resided in Northford for more than twenty two years. He was a self-employed cabinet maker for many years, and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1977-1983 as a helicopter mechanic. Tom was an authentic man with many talents, always encouraging, loved by so many, but his greatest love was for his grandchildren. In addition to his wife Patricia, Tom is survived by five daughters, Michele Lynn Belbusti, Patricia Antionette (Jeffery) LeClaire, Jessica Lynn (Jason Beisaw) Belbusti and Jonna Marie (Michael) Tomasello of Northford and Briana Lynn (Patrick) Melin of North Branford, three sons, John Philip Belbusti, Jr. of North Haven, Joseph Anthony (Alicia) Belbusti of Northford and Thomas Edward Schmidt, Jr. of Massachusetts, five sisters, Nanci (Robert) Dower of North Haven, Gail Schmidt of Florida, Barbara (Joe) Thomas of Las Vegas, NV, Joannie (Robert) Woods of Meriden and Carol (Glen) Hultgren of Florida, two brothers, Kenneth (Lynn) Schmidt of Stratford and William (Joanne) Schmidt of Florida, ten beloved grandchildren, John P. Belbusti, III, Ava M. Belbusti, Anthony J. Belbusti, Isabella S. LeClaire, Joshua P. Belbusti, Charlotte G. LeClaire, Jocelyn R. Belbusti, Michael L. Tomasello, Gianna A. Tomasello and Joseph A. Belbusti, Jr., his military brother William Cardoza of Massachusetts, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Tom’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, July 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 17th at 12:00 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
