Sonia Torres, 79, of New Haven, CT died peacefully on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael Campus with her loving family by her side. Sonia was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico on October 26, 1943, a daughter of the late Gregorio Torres and the late Julia Luna, and had resided in Cayey for most of her life before moving to New Haven in 2011. She was a self-employed seamstress for more than sixty years. Sonia is survived by two daughters, Carmen Maldonado and Sonia Enid Maldonado of Cidra, PR, three sons, Martín (Luz) Maldonado of Hamden and Miguel and Luís Maldonado of New Haven, two sisters, Carmen (Ramón Cartagena) Torres and Laudelina Torres of Cayey, twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by three sisters, Ada E. Torres Luna, Elia M. Torres Luna and Aida M. Torres Luna and five brothers, Jorge Torres Luna, Luís A, Torres Luna, Luís R. Torres Luna, Gregoria Torres Luna and Efrain Torres Luna. Sonia’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, August 9th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Avenue, North Haven.
