Shirley Ann (Watts) Herring

Shirley Ann Herring, 88 of New Haven, CT died peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 11, 2024 with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Curtis D. Herring. Shirley was born in Beatrice, Alabama on December 4, 1935, a daughter of the late Dock and Inez (Burgess) Watts, Sr., and had resided in New Haven for the past sixty nine years. She was a certified nurse’s aid for thirty years, retiring in 2001, and was a longtime member of Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of New Haven. Shirley is survived by three daughters, Suzette Herring and Debra Ann Lyons of Hamden and Veronica L. Herring of New Haven, three sons, Curtis D. Herring, Jr. and Jeffrey K. Herring of New Haven and Eric B. Herring of Fuquay-Varina, NC, one sister, Lillian Smith of Compton, CA, one brother, Dock (Marcia) Watts, Jr. of Carson City, CA, six grandchildren, Evelyn, Ashely, Shanita and Emanuel Herring, Jayla Gordneer and Darryl “DJ” Lyons, Jr., three great-grandchildren, Ayden, Nyla and Cali, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by a sister, Sarah Bayer and two brothers, Lustell Watts, Sr. and Barzia Watts.

Shirley’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, July 25th from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Christian Center, 349 Wheelers Farm Rd., Milford. A funeral service will begin at the church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven.
