Sara Avila

Sara Avila, 89 of East Haven, formerly of New Haven died suddenly at her home on Saturday, April 9, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late Edwin  Sanjuro. Sara was born in Hatillo, Puerto Rico on April 20, 1933, a daughter of the late Juan Avila and the late Anastasia Rivera and had resided in New Haven for most of her life before moving to East Haven eight years ago. Sara is survived by a son, Edwin Sanjuro, Jr. and her niece Deonisia Cortéz of East Haven. She is also survived by many loving other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by four sisters, Eudora, Emilia, Epifania and Eulala Avila, and four brothers, Antonio, Felix, Victor and Israel Avila. Calling hours for Sara will be Wednesday, April 13th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
