Samuel "Sammy" Rivera Rodríguez, 70, of New Haven, CT died suddenly on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at his home. Sammy was born in Maunabo, Puerto Rico on March 6, 1954, a son of the late Concepción Rivera and Venera Rodríguez, and had resided in New Haven for more than fifty years. He worked as a maintenance person for the City of New Haven, Department of Parks and Recreation for five years, retiring in 2019. Sammy is survived by two daughters, Joanna Rivera and Kaitlyn Rivera of New Haven, three sisters, Maria Isabel Rivera (Samuel Llanos Vega) of Providence, RI, and Luz Milagros Rivera García and Silvia Lourdes Rivera García of the Bronx, NY, two brothers, Vidal Rivera García (Maria Mercedes Nieves) of Rio Grande, PR and Hector Humberto Rivera García of Maunabo, his fiancé Evelyn Cában and step-daughter Janine Colón of New Haven, seven grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother José Rafael Rivera García. Sammy's family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, April 6th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Iglesia Cristiana Estrella Resplandeciente de Jacob, 189 Chapel St., New Haven. A funeral service will begin during visitation time at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be private.
