Ricardo “Richard” Santiago, Sr., 83, of New Haven died suddenly at his home on Thursday, January 26, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Mary Wilmot Santiago. Richard was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico on June 10, 1939, a son of Paulina de Jesús of New Haven and the late Claudio Santiago, and had resided in New Haven for most of his life. He loved playing dominos, especially down at Chapel St. Park in New Haven, and enjoyed his domino tournaments in Bridgeport. Richard is also survived by six daughters, Theresa Gambrell, Donna Santiago, Debra Rodríguez and Dawn (Santos) Santiago of New Haven, Yazmin Rivera of Hamden and Kelly Santiago of East Haven, two sons, John Vitello, III of Uncasville and Hector Santiago of Branford, one sister, Adela Santiago of San Juan, Puerto Rico, one brother, Maximo Santiago of Arecibo, twenty four grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by a daughter, Jodi Santiago Russell, a son, Ricardo “Rick” Santiago, Jr., a grandson, Edmond Jackson and three brothers, Wilfredo, José and Evangelista Santiago. Richard’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, February 1st from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven.
