Reverend Eduardo Santiago, 62, of New Haven, CT died peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 22, 2023 with his loving family by his side. Eduardo was born on the 28th day of August 1961 in the city of Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. His parents were Domingo Santiago and Rosalina Estremera. He was the tenth of fifteen children. At the age of 19, Eduardo moved to the United States City of New Haven in search of a new life, and began working at various jobs, finally ending up at the West Haven Veterans Hospital for thirty years.
As a young man, Eduardo accepted Jesus Christ as his savior in 1980, and began his Christian walk. He felt a calling in his life and entered the Latin American Bible Institute of New York where he received his diploma in 1985. In 1988 he received his credential in Ministry on New Haven, CT, and in 1995 he received a certificate for Programs of Hispanic Ministry by the Hartford Seminary. In between 1995 and 2001 he received a recognition by the Ministry Partners of International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. "Righteous Gentiles" who bravely stood in support and solidarity with the biblical land of Israel and her people by Rabbi Yechiel Eckstrein. In 2001 he charted, and was one of the founders of Iglesia Pentecostal "Los Olivos" in affiliation with Independant Christian Council of New York, Inc. He received his Credentials of Ordination, and was ordained minister by the Council of Independent Christian Churches of New York on December 20, 2003. He was installed pastor of La Iglesia Pentecostal Los Olivios in New Haven, and volunteered as chaplain for thirty years at the West Haven Veterans Hospital and Yale Hospitals.
Rev. Santiago leaves behind his brothers Enio (Migdalia) Santiago, Benjamin (Marisol) Santiago, Domingo (Lourdes) Santiago and Melvin Santiago of New Haven, Fernando Santiago of Philadelphia, PA, Geraldo (Minerva) Santiago of Deltona, FL and Abimael (Isabel) Santiago of Boca Raton, FL, his sisters Carmen Santiago, Judith Santiago, Magda (Edwin) Báez and Ana (Wilson Sein) Santiago of New Haven, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Rev. Santiago's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, October 25th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Iglesia Cristiana Estrella de Jacob (Star of Jacob Christian Church), 506 Howard Ave., New Haven. A funeral service will begin at 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will take place at the church on Thursday, October 26th at 10:00 a.m. followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery, 769 Ella T. Grasso Blvd. where he will rest with his parents Domingo and Rosalina, and his sisters Luz Neida Santiago, Glady Santiago and brother Julio Cesar Santiago.
