Ramona Isabel Bruce (Kaykegeeqijuwa) died peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington with her loving family by her side. Ramona was born in New Haven on November 21, 1956, a daughter of the late John Bruce (Quahuftewa) and the late Lucille (Smith) Bruce. She grew up in New Haven, lived for many years in Chicago, IL, Albany, NY for seventeen years, and had resided in Torrington for the past year. Ramona was a 1975 graduate of Wilbur Cross High School of New Haven, attended Fairfield University, and received her Bachelor's degree from Dillard University in New Orleans, LA. Ramona was an ordained Unity Minister, received honors from training at the former Westside VA Medical Center, now known as the Jesse Brown VA Hospital in Chicago. She was a proud member of the Hopi and Winebago tribes. She was a very thoughtful, caring and selfless individual. She had touched a lot of hearts, and leaves behind many friends. Ramona is survived by two brothers, John and Richard Bruce of New Haven, a brother-in-law, Partick Burke of Vernon, CT, eight nieces and nephews, Lisa (Dominic) Montalvo of Meriden, Michael Ildefonso of Virginia, Kenneth Ildefonso of North Haven, Christopher, Kasey, Richard and Lillian Bruce of East Haven, and William "Billy" Bruce, her partner Donna Lee Cook of Torrington, her little beloved four legged fur family, Stanlee, Millee and Dinky, and many great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Katherine Burke and Phyllis Bruce, and a brother, Ronald Bruce. Ramona's family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, August 26th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven.
