Pio D’Ambrosca, 66, of East Haven, CT died peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was the beloved husband of forty one years to Olga-Lynn (Giammattei) D’Ambrosca. Pio was born in Piana di Monte Verna, Prov. of Caserta, Italy on October 6, 1958, a son of the late Rocco and Giuseppina (Petrazzuoli) D’Ambrosca. He came to the United States in 1970 and lived in New Haven for fourteen years before moving to East Haven in 1984. Pio graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in 1976 where played soccer. Shortly thereafter he obtained his U.S. citizenship. From there he went on to play soccer at Quinnipiac College. He was a dedicated fan of the NY Yankees, NY Giants and Inter Milan. Pio met his soulmate at Archie Moore’s in New Haven in July of 1982. They married August 25, 1984 at St. Anthony Church where Pio was a Eucharistic Minister for Italian and English Masses. He operated Lee’s Famous Chicken on Rt. 80 in New Haven, and retired from the Southern Connecticut Gas Company where he was a dedicated and awarded Service Technician for thirty four years. He loved music, movies, travel and family gatherings, especially with his Petrazzuoli cousins. Pio leaves behind his wife Olga-Lynn, two children, Rocco and Gianna, and his most precious grandsons Neo and Milo. He is also survived by his sister Silvana D’Ambrosca and her sons Donato and Massimo of Alife, Italy, and his mother-in-law Louise (Altieri) Giammattei. He is predeceased by his brother Antonio D’Ambrosca, his father-in-law Joseph Louis Giammattei, and his brother-in-law Antonio “Tonnino” Cafaro.
Pio’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, July 31st from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral cortege will depart the funeral home on Friday, August 1st at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Pompeii Church (St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish), 350 Foxon Road, East Haven. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
