Orlando Abate Obituary

Orlando Vincent “Butch” Abate, 87, of Hamden, CT died peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital, York St. Campus on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Elaine Marie (Sargolini) Abate.

Butch was born in New Haven, CT on August 8, 1938, a son of the late Richard and Andrianna (DePino) Abate and resided in Hamden for most of his life. He graduated from Hamden High School in 1957 and served in the Army National Guard from 1958-1961. He was married to the love of his life, Elaine, for sixty four years. In 1987, Butch started his own business, Hamden Paving Co., LLC. It continues today, run by his son Joe with the help of his son Richard and grandson Danny. The most important thing to Butch was his family. He dearly loved all his children and grandchildren. Watching his great-grandson, Gennaro run around “Pa’s” house brought him great joy. Butch loved watching the NY Giants on Sundays with his sons and grandsons at his side.

Abate of Hamden, two sisters, Josephine DiSantis of North Haven and Virginia Remmington of Cheshire, six grandchildren, Anthony (Cristina) Aranci, Christopher Aranci, Samantha Abate, Ashlee Abate, Daniel Abate and Leo (Minuette) Rios, two great-grandchildren, Gennaro Aranci and Amina Rios, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Andrew Abate.
