Nilda Cobián Obituary

With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of our beloved Nilda Cobian, 82, a devoted mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and faithful servant of God who departed this world on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael Campus, New Haven.

Nilda was the cherished daughter of the late Pedro Rubero and Adelicia Nieves. She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico  on October 28, 1943, and raised in the Bronx, New York. Later, she made her home in New Haven, Connecticut, where she lovingly raised her beautiful children and built a life centered on faith, family, and service.

She was a woman of remarkable strength and character—stern when necessary, yet deeply kind, warm, and compassionate at heart. Her presence brought wisdom, guidance, and comfort to all who were blessed to know her. Above all, she was a devoted woman of God who dedicated much of her life to serving the Lord and uplifting others.

Nilda was a proud and loving mother to her three children and a cherished sister, not only within her family but also among her brothers and sisters in Christ. She was widely known and loved in her church community, especially for her role in the kitchen, where she shared her gift of cooking. Whether preparing meals for church gatherings or for her family at home, she poured love into every dish, bringing people together through her generosity.

Her life was defined by selflessness and unconditional love. For over 20 years, she served as a foster mother, opening her home and heart to more than several children. She provided them with safety, care, and guidance, expecting nothing in return. Her compassion and generosity touched countless lives and will never be forgotten.

Nilda’s legacy is one of faith, love, and service. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory, honor her teachings, and continue the love she so freely gave.

Though she is no longer with us in body, we find peace in knowing her beautiful soul rests in eternal peace in Heaven.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Nilda is survived by two daughters, Carrie Cobián and her husband Luís Pagán of New Haven and Adelicia Cobián and her husband Daniel Guzman of Hatillo, Puerto Rico, one brother, Jorge Rubero of Tampa, FL, six grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her son Manuel Rivera.

Nilda's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, May 1st from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Door of Salvation Christian Church, 3 Arch St., New Haven. A funeral service will take place during visitation time. Burial will be private. The Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven has been entrusted with arrangements. washingtonmemorialfh.com
