Nicola Luongo

Nicola Luongo, 87, of Hamden died peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Saturday, July 2, 2022 with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of fifty five years to Maria Imbriani Luongo. Nicola was born in Ponte Latone, province of Caserta, Italy on March 30, 1935, a son of the late Antonio and Concetta Izzo Luongo. He came to the U.S. in 1969 and had resided in Hamden for the past fifty three years. Nicola was a roofer for Russo Roofing of Hamden for twenty two years, retiring in 2006. He previously worked as a stone mason, and took pride in letting people know that he helped build the elevator shafts at the Hospital of St. Raphael. In addition to his wife Maria, Nicola is survived by his daughter Antonietta Scirocco and her husband Dominic of Hamden, three grandchildren, Isabella, Domenico, III and Nicola Scirocco, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by a daughter, Anna Concetta Luongo and a son, Giovanni Luongo, one sister, Teresa Frasso and one brother, Giovanni Luongo. Nicola’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 6th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral procession will leave from the funeral home on Thursday, July 7th at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in Ascension Church (St. Paul IV Parish), 1040 Dunbar Hill Road, Hamden.
