Nicholas Angelo Zampano

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Nicholas Angelo Zampano, who departed this life peacefully at the age of 99 on June 6, 2026. He was born on December 7, 1926 in New Haven, the son of Anthony Zampano and Catherine Pascarella.

Nick was a hard worker, employed by C. Cowles and Company in the Shipping and Receiving Department for 41 years, from 1951 until his retirement in 1992. Most notably, Nick was a devoted husband and was married for 70 years to the love of his life Josephine. Together they built a life in what was then a farm community in Northford, and raised their two daughters. As a faithful Catholic, he devoted time to daily prayer and attended daily mass after retirement, until the COVID epidemic, when he began watching daily mass on TV. He was happiest when surrounded by family. His second love was sports, and he faithfully watched his N.Y. Yankees, N.Y. Giants, and college basketball, most notably UCONN and Texas A & M. He became an avid reader and loved to share stories from the books he read with everyone. His memory and recall of earlier events in his life was notable, and he enjoyed telling stories or recalling events for his past with anyone with a willing ear. Nick also faithfully served his country with the U.S. Army shortly after the end of WWII.

He is survived by his loving wife Josephine Ann (DelVecchio) Zampano, daughters Sally Makowicki and husband Dave, and Cathie Zampano and husband Wayne. His grandchildren are Dan Makowicki, Shane Makowicki and wife Judy Crews along with granddogs Addie and Ava (who he spoiled constantly, slipping them food anytime no one was looking). The family would like to extend their gratitude to Nick’s excellent caregivers over the last 3 years: Ewelina, Dorota, Stanley, and Linda.

Nick's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, June 10th from 9:15 until 10:15 a.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in St. Monica Church (St. Pier Giorgio Frassati Parish), 1331 Middletown Ave., Northford. Burial with Military Honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 700 Middletown Ave., North Haven.
