Nereida Melendez-Rivera

Nereida "Nery" Meléndez-Rivera, 79, of Hamden, CT died peacefully on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Roberto Rivera. Nery was born in Veg Baja, Puerto Rico on February 22, 1944, a daughter of the late Paul Meléndez and the late Ana Maria Martínez. She had resided in New Haven for many years before moving to Hamden ten years ago. Nery is also survived by her loving children Carmen A. Vargas and José Angel Vargas of Orlando, FL, Iris N. Santiago of North Haven, Isabel Codero of New Haven, William (Luz Sullivan) Ruíz of Sarasota, FL and Felipe (Rebecca) Cordero of East Haven, four sisters, Viviana "Lucy" (Jesús) Meléndez and Aracelis (Archimides Albino) Meléndez of Orlando, Ana (Neftali) Pabón of New Haven and Iris "Millie" Santiago of Spring Hill, FL, twenty one grandchildren, twenty six great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her brother José A. Santiago. Nery's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, December 13th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Vertical Church, 225 Meloy Road, West Haven, CT. A funeral service will take place during visitation time. Burial will be private.
