Obituary

Minerva López, 78, of Waterbury, formerly of Meriden and New Haven died peacefully on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Waterbury Hospital with her loving family by her side. Minerva was born in Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico on May 22, 1943, a daughter of the late Agustín López and the late Rosa Santiago. She had lived in Waterbury for the past two months. She had previously resided in Meriden for five years, and New Haven for most of her life. Minerva was aa cook at Casa Otoñal of New Haven for six years, retiring in 2011. She previously worked in the cafeteria at Welch Annex School, New Haven for six years. Minerva is survived by two daughters, Vilma Pérez of New Haven and Nitza Magali López of Waterbury, two sons, Pablo Pérez López of Santa Isabel and Edgardo Ortíz of New Haven, her bonus son, Tyjuan Dawkins of Waterbury, thirteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three step grandchildren, one step great-granddaughter, and her longtime caregiver Damiana Reyes. She was predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth Morales, her brother Hector Sánchez, and her great-grandson Victor Morales. Minerva's family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, January 15th from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven.
