Miguel Eusebio Nuñez Soto, 90, of Branford, CT, formerly of Hamden, CT died peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2025 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Ana “Anita” Reyes Aguilera de Nuñez. Miguel was born in Quito, Ecuador on May 23, 1935, a son of the late Francisco Nuñez Cabesa de Vaca and the late Georgina Soto García de Nuñez. He came to the United States in 1999 settling in West Haven, and had resided in Hamden for sixteen years before moving to Branford five years ago.
Miguel was a born again believer, a loving father and grandfather (Papa Miguel). Even though Miguel lost his dad at an early age and only attended elementary school, he was determined not to be defeated by life’s circumstances. As a child, he woke up very early in the morning to go to the market and help the farmers sell their produce. He would take home an assorted amount of vegetables to help feed his mother, brother and sisters. Miguel is described by his children as a wise and loving father who, by example, showed them how to live a life of hard work, honesty, discernment, dedication, and diligence. He demonstrated to everyone he came in contact with that “hard work pays off.”
Miguel enlisted in the Ecuadorian Navy as a teenager and later worked as a Merchant Marine for FLOPEC (oil shipping company).
He met and fell in love with his wife Anita at church. They were married June 6, 1975 and celebrated thirty seven years before Anita passed away at 58 years old.
He was an avid reader and loved the news, often combining those with being an early riser. He loved to be in church as often as possible, and loved classical music and hymns. His grandchildren were able to play the piano and violin for him several times. He loved to eat anything and everything, but his ultimate favorites were black coffee and seafood.
Miguel will be missed greatly by his family, but we rejoice for the promise that we will see him again one day in Heaven. Revelation 21:4,5-“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things have passed away.”
His favorite Bible verse was Joshua 1:9-“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Miguel is survived his daughter Daphne Patricia Nuñez of Branford, his son, Samuel David Nuñez and his wife Laurie of New Tazewell, TN, one brother, Francisco Nuñez Soto of New Brunswick, GA, six grandchildren, Luke, Leah, Nehemiah, Ezra, Susanna and Samuel D. Nuñez, Jr., and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by three sisters, Blanca Nuñez Soto, Georgina Nuñez Soto and Victoria Soto.
A graveside service will take place on Thursday, December 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Centerville Cemetery, Hamden, the Rev. Michael Carbal officiating. The Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven has been entrusted with arrangements. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
