Miguel "Mike" A. Laguna, 88, of New Haven, CT died peacefully at his home on Friday, December 15, 2023. He was the beloved husband of the late Nellie Torres Laguna. Miguel was born and raised in New York City, where he met his wife Nellie and started a family. In the early years of his life, Mike struggled with addiction for over a decade. He finally overcame his addictions, and moved to New Haven in 1966. Mike dedicated his career to helping recovering addicts and making a positive impact in his community. During his time in New Haven Mike worked with various non profit organizations, on mayoral campaigns, and was appointed as a Police Commissioner for the City of New Haven. In 1971 Mike founded and became the first Executive Director of Crossroads Drug Rehabilitation Program, Inc. where he continued his role until retiring in 2000. Mike is survived by his daughter Leslie Laguna and son Steven Laguna of New Haven, a sister Lydia Martínez and a brother Gilbert Laguna of California, seven grandchildren, Aracelis Laguna, Chanel O'Neill, Steven Laguna, Jr., Thomas Laguna, Mia Janai Laguna, Carlos Pereira, and Kayla Dickinson-Laguna, five great-grandchildren, Miguel V, Owen, Mikyle, Cara and Remy, and five great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Miguel A. Laguna, III and Robert Laguna, a sister, Aida González and a grandson, Miguel Laguna, IV. Mike's family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, December 26th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 27th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. washingtonmemorialfh.com
