Melissa Annunziata, AKA Virginia Ayala Vega, 48 of New Haven, CT died peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital with her loving family by her side on Monday, August 21, 2023. She was the beloved wife of Robert Thomas Walters. Melissa was born in Maricao, Puerto Rico on September 11, 1974, a daughter of Angel Luís Ayala Berrocales and Vidalina Vega of Sabana Grande, PR and had resided in New Haven for most of her life. Melissa was a 1993 graduate of Career High School, and was the auto parts manager at Richlin’s in Branford for eighteen years until 2018. She was a former president of the Young Board of Police Commissioners for the City of New Haven. She was an avid singer who enjoyed karaoke, and loved cooking and baking. In addition to her husband Robert, Melissa is survived by four sisters, Maria V. Annunziata of North Haven, Teresa Annunziata of Branford, Alexandra Ayala of Schenectady, NY and Monserate Ayala of York, PA, five brothers, Saverio “Sam” Annunziata and his wife Deborah and Joseph P. Annunziata of New Haven, Michael Annunziata of East Haven, and Luís Angel Ayala and José Ayala of Guanica, Puerto Rico. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her adoptive parents Joseph and Eugenia Annunziata. Melissa’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, August 29th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven.
