Maryann Nancy (Petrillo) Vergato, 73, of North Haven, CT, formerly of Hamden, CT died peacefully on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael Campus with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of fifty three years to Thomas Joseph Vergato, Sr. Maryannn was born in New Haven, CT on July 2, 1952, a daughter of the late William and Emily "Millie" (Casagrande) Petrillo and had resided in Hamden for most of her life before moving to North Haven four years ago. She was an administrator at the West Haven Veterans' Health Administration for thirty three years, retiring in 2017.
Maryann was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved Jesus Christ with all her heart, and had no doubt of where she was going when she passed on. She loved God's words and was a great teacher of it. She also loved history and was a true American patriot. Her and her husband's door was always open to all, for food and friendship, and for sharing God's word and His love with all. She was truly loved by many, and in her later years she loved so much to see her grandchildren and great-grandchildren come to visit and watch them play. Maryann loved nature, and to sit outside with her husband, her true partner in life. They loved each other beyond words, and they would sit and drink coffee, and feed and watch the squirrels and birds, and so many different animals in their yard. She is now home with the Lord in the Kingdom of Heaven, where she is joyful, and where one day we will see her again.
In addition to her husband, Maryann is survived by her son Thomas Joseph (Michelle) Vergato, Jr. of North Haven, one brother John (Barbara) Petrillo of West Haven, three grandchildren, Briana (Walker) Sachner, Sarah (Mario) Maggiore and Thomas James "TJ" (Denise) Vergato, six great-grandchildren, Callan and Teagan Sachner, Luciano, Mila and Ariana Maggiore and Ila Vergato, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Maryann are private and have been entrusted to Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. washingtonmemorialfh.com
