Martin Lopez Obituary

Martín Lopez, 95, of New Haven, CT died peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Carmen Carrillo Lopez. Martin was born in Isabela, Puerto Rico on January 29, 1929, a son of the late Baldomero Lopez and the late Rosaura Velez, and had resided in New Haven since 1958. He was a machinist at Connecticut Container in New Haven for forty years, retiring in 1998. Along with his wife Carmen, Martin was a longtime, active parishioner of St. John the Evangelist, St. Peter, Sacred Heart and St. Anthony Church community. He is also survived by a daughter, Annie Virginia Lopez of New haven, three sons, Victor Manuel Lopez and Miguel Angel Lopez of New Haven and Frank (Monique Turner-Lopez) Lopez of Suffolk, VA, his daughter-in-law Sherry Lopez, six grandchildren, Martin Lopez, III, Quiana, Emmari, Emani and Victor Lopez, Jr. and Alicia (Teddy) Smith, seven great-grandchildren, Lavonte, Chanel, Myia, Melody and A.J. Lopez, and Nas and Kelis Smith, and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his son Martin Lopez, Jr., three sisters, Fermina, Julia and Chola Lopez, and six brothers, Hipolito, Serapio, Juan, Florencio, Catalino and Jose Lopez. Martin's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, February 9th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral cortege will depart the funeral home on Saturday, February 10th at 8:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. in St. Anthony Church (Blessed Fr. McGivney Parish), 70 Washington Ave., New Haven. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. Immediately following the committal service at Evergreen Cemetery, Martín's family invites everyone to join them back to St, Anthony Church hall for reflections and refreshments. washingtonmemorialfh.com
