Marie Haggerty Obituary

Marie Ann Haggerty, 88, a long-time resident of North Haven, CT (since 1967), passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Marie was born in New Haven, CT on September 26, 1937, a daughter of the late John and Gilda (Percopo) D’Ambrosio. She is survived by her husband Charles J. Haggerty, and her three children and their spouses; Mary (Jeffrey)Stotling of Middletown, Jeffrey (June) Haggerty of East Haddam, and Joanne (George “Ty) Tyrrell of Tampa, FL. Marie was predeceased by her sister Patricia D’Amato of Bethany and her brother John D’Ambrosio of West Haven. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law Marie Riebe of Darien. Marie adored all of her nieces and nephews, and their spouses and children; Diane (John)Diana of Wallingford, Christine D’Amato of Bethany, Daniel (Denise) D’Ambrosio of Bristol, Eric (Brandi) D’Ambrosio and Toni D’Ambrosio of MA, and Erin (Evan) Dunne and Scott (Jennifer) Riebe of Darien.

Marie’s work history revolved around the school schedule of her children, including  school bus monitor. Once they completed their education, she joined the full-time workforce at Picker Industries of North Branford, and later at the Connecticut  Credit Union League in Wallingford. Marie was a very social person with a beautiful smile. She valued many lifelong friendships. She made countless friends throughout her life, and treated everyone she met with kindness, respect and love. Marie looked forward to going out with her husband of 69 years, Charles, whom she met on a blind date when they attended separate high schools, Marie of Wilbur Cross, Class of ’56 and Charles of Notre Dame of West Haven, Class of ’55. They regularly went to eat locally, and on the shoreline. They frequented most of the area town’s restaurants, movie theatres, summer concerts and craft fairs. They traveled extensively to sunny locales in Bermuda, the Caribbean, and Florida. There they wintered in the Tequesta area, and loved to visit Charles’ cousins while in Florida. Marie was very active with exercise classes and Topps, until her health would no longer allow it. Marie treasured the time spent shopping with her daughter Mary. She was a lover of animals, and had several dogs and cats over the years. Marie spent the last sixteen months in the care of the staff at Twin Maples Healthcare Facility in Durham. Thank you all for watching over her 24/7. Also, a huge Thank you to the amazing staff in the Hospice Unit at Middlesex Hospital where Marie spent her final days. Every one of the many people who interacted with her while there showed the utmost loving care that she deserved.
