Mariano “Mario” Candelario, 82, of West Haven died peacefully at his home on Friday, October 1, 2021 with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of fifty eight years to Ana Esquilin Candelario. Mario was born in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico on June 1, 1939, a son of the late Lucas Candelario and Josefa Vidro, and had resided in West Haven for the past fifty five years. He was a foreman for Capitol Pipe Co. of Newington for thirty three years, retiring in 2003. Mario was a long-time parishioner of the St. John the Evangelist, St. Peter, Sacred Heart and St. Anthony Churches Community. In addition to his wife Ana, Mario is survived by his son Mark Candelario and his wife Laurie of West Haven, seven sisters, Sonia, Norma (Angel), Aida (Arturo), Godila (Abraham), Zeneida (Ferdinand) and Laly (Frank) Candelario of Sabana Grande, and Minerva (Arthur) Candelario of Cheshire, two brothers, Carlos Lucas (Santia) and Abraham (Carmen) Candelario of Sabana Grande, two grandchildren, Marquis and Marissa Candelario and a great-grandson, Sebastian Gabriel Candelario of West Haven, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Celina Candelario, and two brothers, Andres and Wilfrancis “Papo” Candelario. Mario’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, October 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral procession will leave from the funeral home on Wednesday, October 6th at 9:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, 70 Washington Ave., New Haven.
