Maria Rivera, 79 of Hamden, formerly of Vineland, NJ and Vega Alta, PR died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Florentino Rivera. Maria was born in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico on June 14, 1941, a daughter of the late Niclasio Maysonet and the late Edelmira García. She resided in Vega Alta for most of her life before moving to Vineland, NJ in 1999 where she lived for twenty years before moving to Hamden last year. Maria was a cook for many years in the Vega Alta School System. She is survived by three daughters, Ramona Soto of Vineland, and Rosa and Carmen Rivera of Hamden, one son, Roberto Rivera of Vineland, two sisters, Pilar (Julio Rodríguez) Maysonet of Dorado, PR and Petra Maysonet of Camden, NJ, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by one sister, Laura Maysonet, and two brothers, José Manuel Maysonet and Nicasio Maysonet, Jr. Maria’s family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, February 28th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Memorial Funeral Home, North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Monday, March 1st at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
