Maria Hermosillo Obituary

Maria Estela Hermosillo, 82, of New Haven, Connecticut, devoted mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Canutillo, Texas on September 3, 1939, a daughter of the late Aurora Valenzuela and Casamire Cruz. She is survived by three of six siblings: Joe Quésada, Jr. and his wife Carmen, Jessie García and her husband Richard García, and Rose Ochoa. She was predeceased by Lily Juarez, Marie Rivera and Connie Quésada. She graduated from James Lick High School, San José, CA  where she met and married Miguel G. Hermosillo. She and her daughters moved to Connecticut in 1969. She worked and attended college, receiving her Associate's from Manchester Community College, Bachelor's from St. Joseph College, and her MSW through a full scholarship from Boston College, all while raising her daughters as a single parent. She worked at UTC in California, Catholic Family Services in Hartford, CT and retired after twenty years from the from the U.S. Judicial Department as a Bilingual Probation Officer (Pre-Trial) to help raise her grandchildren. She re-married the love of her life, Miguel G. Hermosillo (pre-deceased) in 1986. She enjoyed being a grandmother to all her grandchildren, and traveling the country to spend time with her family. Her devotion was not just to her family. Her love of Baha' u' llah, an active member of the Baha' i Community, and served as the Secretary of the New Haven Local Spiritual Assembly for several decades. She will be remembered for her many selfless acts to help immediate and extended family. She was an exemplar of service, teaching, and love for all of humanity. Estela's legacy lives on through her daughters: Reneé Hermosillo-González and her husband Ubaldo González, Marta DeMay and husband Ross DeMAY and Mighela Hermosillo-Cochran and her husband Jeff Cochran. She is also survived by  eight grandchildren: Lorina Davis, Rachel Ryan, Maria Coss Y León, Cristina González, Caden Cochran, Keegan Cochran, Greyson Cochran and Paxton Cochran. Estela's family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, December 19th from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Monday, December 20th at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Centerville Cemetery, Hamden. At the request of the Hermosillo family, facial coverings will be required for all attendees. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Estela's name may be sent to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405, or at www.hospice.org, or by calling 203 315-7500. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
