Marguerite Brennan Obituary

Marguerite “Peggy” Brennan passed away peacefully at age 77 on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a valiantly fought 8-year cancer battle. Peggy was raised in Bridgeport and graduated from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven. She subsequently received her MSW from the University of Connecticut’s Graduate School of Social Work. At the time of her passing she had recently relocated to Hamden after being a longtime resident of both North Haven and New Haven.

Peggy’s initial employment was at the Robert Wolfe Senior Center and subsequently at Fair Haven Housing, both in New Haven. After serving as program director for the Greater Bridgeport Transit District, she worked in planning and economic development capacities for many Connecticut towns and cities, including Hamden, New Haven, Bridgeport and Meriden. She also served on the North Haven Democratic Town Committee and the North Haven Police Commission.

Peggy is survived by her son David Picton, her stepson Eric Darley and his wife Amy Christopher and their two children, Angela and Adrian Darley, brothers Jerry and John Brennan, and many beloved relatives in and around Kilkenny, Ireland. She was predeceased by her husband Steve Darley, mother and father Marguerite and Edward Brennan, and brother Eddie Brennan.

A celebration of life will occur with details to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the New Haven Friends faith community of the Religious Society of Friends/Quakers via www.newhavenfriends.org or a check made out to New Haven Friends Meeting which can be mailed to New Haven Friends Meeting, 225 East Grand Avenue, New Haven, CT 06513. The Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Avenue, North Haven has been entrusted with arrangements. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
