Madeline Mrowka Obituary

Madeline Mary Migliaro Mrowka, 81 of Hamden, CT died peacefully at The Regency House, Wallingford on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter Joseph Mrowka. Madeline was born in New Haven, CT on September 22, 1942, a daughter of the late Christie and Jeannette Gentile Migliaro. Madeline grew up in Hamden, spending her youth with her many cousins, all of whom were like siblings, skating on Clark’s Pond, playing accordion and developing and sharing her father and Uncle Charlie’s love of cars, earning the nickname “Garage Annie” while at Eli Whitney. She graduated from Hamden High School in 1960, received a dental hygienist certificate from Eli Whitney Vocational School in 1961, and attended Quinnipiac College. She worked as a dental hygienist for a number of years before embarking on a thirty six year career at Yale University, having worked at the School of Medicine and then Yale Health Center until her retirement from Care Coordination in 2011. It was  fitting that Madeline’s life work focused on patient care and ultimately the business side of medicine, given her nurturing demeanor and unfailing kindness. Madeline and Pete made their home in Hamden, devoting their free time to their daughter, Christa. While Pete coached basketball and softball, Madeline, known to all as Maddie, volunteered her time and heart and became a second mother to many of Christa’s childhood friends. Many of these relationships continued throughout her life. She enjoyed trips to Cape Cod and Newport, and her hobbies included crafting and cooking. She had a story for everyone and every experience she ever had, and loved to spend time with her family. That, was her greatest joy. After Pete’s death, Madeline lived with her daughter and son-in-law for nearly eight years, and until her last breath, called Jeff her very best friend in the world. They made many memories in her later years, enjoying road trips to Kringle Candle and the Newport mansions, taking in concerts including a memorable night seeing Tim McGraw and Faith Hill that left Maddie wide-eyed and speechless (in the best possible way). Maddie’s heart and compassion was endless. She was known for remembering every birthday, anniversary and special occasion by sending cards and gifts, her thoughtfulness unmatched, and her love for everyone unwavering. Maddie was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, a Brownie troop leader and President of the Home School Association at Rev. Daniel J. Barry Junior High School. She was active at Sacred Heart Academy, serving on the auction committee, and as the lead make-up artist for SHA’s annual musical during all of Christa’s high school years. She is the beloved mother of Christa (Jeffrey) Bernacchia, and also leaves behind godchildren, cousins, extended family and countless friends, having touched the life of every single person she ever met. Madeline is predeceased by her brother Christie C. Migliaro. Christa and Jeff want to thank the staff at The Regency House for their care and compassion over the past two years, and to everyone who has loved and supported Maddie.
