Lydia Escobales Obituary

Lydia Esther Escobales, 66 of Merdein, CT died peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Complete Care Meriden with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Anibal Torres. Lydia was born in Jayuya, Puerto Rico on July 30, 1957, a daughter of the late Jero Escobales and the late Mercedes Roman. She moved from Jayuya to Brooklyn, NY in 1987, and resided there for two years before moving to New Haven in 1989, and had lived in Meriden for the past four years. Lydia is survived by two daughters, Johanna Ortíz of Milford and Grisset Ortíz of Meriden, two sons, Melvin (Kayla) Ortíz of Middletown and Elio Ortíz of New Haven, three sisters, Ada Escobales of Rio Piedras, PR, Lourdes (Felix Casillas) Escobales of Carolina, PR and Lolin Acévedo of San Juan, PR, four brothers, Miguel Angel Escobales and Miguel (Linda) Escobales of Miami, FL, Luís Escobales of Kissimmee, FL and Edwin (Luz Esquelin) Escoblaes of San Antonio, TX, seven grandchildren, Melaydee Rivera, Alex Rodríguez, Melvin Ortíz, Jr., Melanie Ortíz and Michael Ortíz, Kyara Crespo and Kelvin Espinal, two great-grandchidren Karsyn Lowery and Leila Rosado, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her sister Martha Escobales. Lydia's family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, November 27th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 12:00 p.m.  Burial will be private. washingtonmemorialfh.com
