Luzermina Rivera Garcia

Luzermina "Lucy" Rivera Garcia, 80, of New Haven, formerly of Poncé, Puerto Rico died peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 7, 2026 with her loving family by her side. Lucy was born in Poncé on June 6, 1945, a daughter of the late Severio Santiago Rivera and the late Manuela Garcia Torres, and had lived in Poncé all of her life before moving to New Haven to be with her son one year ago. While in Puerto Rico, she worked for several years for Starkist Tuna Company, and afterward as a housewife.

Lucy always loved being surrounded by her grandchildren, children, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. She loved the beach, cooking, and interacting with all who knew her.

Lucy is survived by a daughter, Deurcicia Alvarado of Poncé, three sons, Gaspar (Nelli Rivera) Feliciano, Jr. of East Haven, Christopher Alvarado of Pennsylvania and William (Norma Ayala) Feliciano of New Haven, fifteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her daughter Lydia Esther Feliciano, her son Richard Feliciano, two sisters, Juanita Garcia and Ana Santiago and four brothers, Jaime and Carlos Rivera, Antonio Santiago and William Feol Garcia.

Lucy's family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, February 16th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 17th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, 769 Ella T. Grasso Blvd., New Haven. washingtonmemorialfh.com

Luzermina "Lucy" Rivera Garcia, de 80 años, de New Haven, CT, anteriormente de Poncé, Puerto Rico, falleció pacificamente en su hogar el sábado 7 de febrero de 2026 con su amorosa familia de lado. Lucy nació en Poncé el 6 de junio de 1945, hija del fallecido Severio Santiago Rivera y de la fallecida Manuela Garcia Torres, y había vivido en Poncé toda su vida antes de mudarse a New Haven para estar con su hijo hace un año. Mientras in Puerto Rico, trabajó durante varios años para la empresa Starkist Tuna Co. y fue despues ama de casa.

Lucy siempre le gustaba estar rodeada de sus nietos, hijos, sobrinos, nietos familares y amigos. Le gustaba la playa, cosinar, y compartir con todos los que la conocía. 

Lucy deja en duelo a una hija, Deurcicia Alvarado de Poncé, tres hijos, Gaspar (Nelli Rivera) Feliciano, Jr. de East Haven, Christopher Alvarado de Pennsylvania, y William (Norma Ayala) Feliciano de New Haven, quince nietos, doce bisnietos y muchos sobrinos, sobrinas, tataranietos, primas, primos y amigos amorosos. Fue precedida en la muerte por su hija Lydia Esther Feliciano, su hijo Richard Feliciano, dos hermanas, Juanita Garcia y Ana Santiago y cuatro hermanos, Jaime y Carlos Rivera, Antonio Santiago y William Feol Garcia.

La familia de Lucy recibirá a familiares y amigos el lunes 16 de febrero  de 5:00 a 8:00 en la Funeraria Washington Memorial, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. Un servicio fúnerario se llevará a cabo en la funeraria el martes el 17 febrero a las 10:00 a.m. El entierro seguirá en el Cementerio Evergreen, 769 Ella T.
