Luís Torres, 85, of Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, formerly of New Haven, CT died peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Ana Delia Santiago Torres. Luís was born in Trujillo Alto, PR on August 25, 1937, a son of the late Aguedo Torres and the late Jesusa Hernández. He moved to New Haven in 1969, and resided in the city for forty four years before moving to Adjuntas ten years ago. Luís was a self-employed handyman for many years, retiring twenty one years ago, and was a former member of Star of Jacob Christian Church (Iglesia Cristiana Estrella de Jacob), New Haven. He is survived by three daughters, Zoraida Torres of Trujillo Alto, Delia (Pablo Santana) Torres of Adjuntas and Maritza Torres of Tampa, FL, three sons, Benjamin Torres of Trujillo Alto, Daniel Torres of Chelsea, MA and Luís (Marilyn) Torres of Hamden, CT, eight sisters, Maria Luz Torres, Lila (Santos) Torres, Eredita Torres, Ortenzia (Juan Ortíz) Torres and Olga (Ramón Rivera) Torres, all of Trujillo Alto, Ivette (Felix) Viera of New Haven, Dr. Brunilda (Hector) Cordero of St. Pauls, NC and Gracie Torres of Chelsea, MA, five brothers, Raul (Helen) Torres, Efrain (Pucha) Torres, Richard (Milagros) Torres and Aguedo (Julia) Torres of Trujillo Alto, and Radames (Noemi) Torres of Vineland, NJ, eighteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many loving, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother José Torres. Luís family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, June 1st from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven, CT. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Friday, June 2nd at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
