Luís DeLaPaz, Sr. Obituary

Luís Angel DeLaPaz, Sr., 65, of Port Richey, Florida, formerly of New Haven, Connecticut, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Eva (Rosario) DeLaPaz.

Luís was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on Saturday, May 28, 1960, a son of Marcelina "Chela" (López) DeLaPaz of Ocala, FL and the late Jorge DeLaPaz. In 1972 the DeLaPaz Family settled in New Haven. Luís Angel graduated from Richard C. Lee High School in 1978. He worked at Marlin's Firearms Company in North Haven for nineteen years as a machinist making rifles and firearms. Music was his lifelong passion as much as a part of his soul, with the trombone holding a special place in his heart. He marked the beginning of his musical journey with the band Orquestra Momento Siglo XX. Luís was a great baseball player in Puerto Rico along with his big brother Pito as children up until their teenage years. He was a die hard New York Yankees fan, and would never miss a game. He found happiness in good food and in the company of loved ones. He cherished the time spent on caring for his home, taking pride in every detail. His love for his wife Eva was beyond words, and truly extraordinary. She was his better half, his companion and best friend. Their partnership was a testament to what it means to truly love and be dedicated to one another for nearly three decades. His LOVE for Eva spoke volumes to the deep respect and affection they held for one another.

In addition to his beloved wife Eva, and his mother "Chela", Luís is survived by his son Luís Angel (Milagros DeLaPaz Henrriques) DeLaPaz, Jr. of West Haven, two daughters, Yajaira DeLaPaz and Natalya DeLaPaz of New Haven, three step-children, José Colón, Alexander Colón and Javier Colón, one brother, Jorge Luís "Pito" (Aide DeLaPaz) DeLaPaz of Hamden, and one sister, Georgina Correa of New Haven. He was loved by his grandchildren, Ariana Maria DeLaPaz, Isabella Ann Resto, Rosalyn Marie Resto, Luís Anthony DeLaPaz, Edward Francisco Rios, and Jax Jorge Resto, along with his great-grandchildren, Karmelo Elijah Gee, D'ari Jordan Gee and Levi Malkai Gee. He was predeceased by his step-son Omar Colón and his sister Migdalia DeLaPaz.
