Lidia Quiles Vélez, 82 of New Haven died peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Margaró Quiles. Lidia was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico on October 19, 1937, a daughter of the late Jorge Quiles and the late Rosalina González, and had traveled back and forth from Puerto Rico to New Haven for many years, before residing permanently in New Haven ten years ago. Lidia is survived by two daughters, Nancy Vélez and Carmen Vélez of New Haven, one son, Hector Vélez of Florida, one sister Famito (Daniel) Rodríguez of New Haven, two brothers, Margaró (Nelida) Quiles of Arecibo, Puerto Rico and Edwin (Maria) Quiles of New Haven, twenty four grandchildren, and many loving great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by two sons, Aníbal Vélez and Nelson Vélez, two sisters, Luz Maria Quiles and Nelida Quiles, and one brother, José Antonio Quiles. Lidia's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, September 24th from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Iglesia Pentecostal Jehová Rohí, 577 Howard Ave., New Haven. A funeral service will take place at the church on Friday, September 25th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven.
