Liam Walter McKiernan, 55, a longtime resident of North Haven, CT and formerly of Hamden, CT, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024. Liam was born in New Haven, CT in 1969, son of the late William McKiernan and Nancy Komoroski.
Liam graduated from Hamden High School, before attending the University of New Haven, receiving a full athletic scholarship, excelling in his academics and football career, achieving the great honor of being named an All-American Collegiate Football Player, while receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. After graduation he was sworn in as a Norwich Police Officer, later transferring to the Ansonia Police Department, before opening his own business, North Haven Overhead Door, of which he has been a proprietor since 1999. He was a die-hard NY Giants football fan. Above all, he greatly loved watching his kids compete in sports. He was their biggest fan.
Liam is survived by his cherished children, Liam, Aiden and Bria McKiernan of North Haven, of which were his heart and soul, his sisters Lana Claire Ives and Lucille Laydon and her husband William Laydon, Jr. of North Haven, brother Lance Komoroski of Hamden, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, extended family, and many K-9 companions. Besides his parents, Liam is predeceased by his beloved sister Lisa H. McKiernan LaPenna.
Liam’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, July 5th from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 11:40 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church (St. Paul VI Parish), 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Hamden. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
