Leonid Serhijiw, 93 of Orange died peacefully on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of sixty two years to Tamara Denysenko Serhijiw. Leonid was born in the Ukraine on July 26, 1927, a son of Myron and Natalie Serhijiw. He immigrated from the Ukraine to Sao Paolo, Brazil in 1947, came to the United States in 1959, and had resided in Orange for the past fifty two years. Leonid was a longtime and founding member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church of New Haven, and was very active in the day to day duties of church operations. Along with his wife Tamara, he owned and operated the former International Sportswear, Inc. of New Haven for twenty five years. He also worked for the former H.B. Ives. Co. of New Haven for over thirty years, retiring in 1993. Leonid is also survived by his daughter Jane Haggerty and her husband Sean of North Haven, one sister, Ludmila Bukatz of Pennsylvania, two grandchildren, Tara Auth and her husband Matthew of North Haven and Kristofer Haggerty and his wife Chelsea of West Greenwich, RI, and three great-grandchildren, Mila, Everett and Maverick Auth. He was predeceased by his sister Halina Cryziw. There will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, January 15th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 50 Fowler St., New Haven.
