Leon David Burrell, 55, of New Haven, CT died peacefully on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Amy Acosta. Leon was born in Bridgeport, CT on September 21, 1967, a son of the late Joseph and Barbara A. Garrett Burrell, and had lived in New Haven for most of his life. He was a 1985 graduate of West Haven High School. Leon was a lead man and fork lift operator for Estes Express of Middletown for the past twenty years. In addition to his wife Amy, Leon is survived by two sons, Brandon David Burrell and Leon David Burrell of New Haven, three sisters, Lisa Garrett and Letitta (Thomas) Boyd of New Haven and Larissa Burrell of Waterbury, one brother, Lúcien Powell of Waterbury, one grandson, Rilee Burrell of New Haven, his godmother, Marie Simmons, godsisters, LaCrisha and Yolanda Hicks, godbrother, James Hicks, all of West Haven, and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A celebration of Leon's life will take place on Friday, May 19th at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven with Leon's family receiving relatives and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Words of comfort will be expressed at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be private. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
