Juana Custodio Díaz

Juana Custodio Díaz, 65, of New Haven, CT died suddenly at her home on Friday, April 25, 2025. She was the beloved wife of Calvin Mimms. Custodia was born in San José de Ocoa, Dominican Republic on November 9, 1959, a daughter of Julio and Thelma (Díaz) Custodio of Santo Domingo, DR. She moved to the U.S. in 1990 living in the Washington Heights section of the Bronx for ten years, then lived in Paterson, NJ for seventeen years before moving to New Haven seven years ago. While living in the Dominican Republic Juana received her law degree and practiced law there for several years. 

In addition to her husband, Juana is survived by two daughters, Fiorela Mimms of New Haven and Whitney (Aldo González) Mimms of Santo Domingo, DR, one son, Emil (Diana) Pérez of Paterson, NJ, one sister, Karina (Ricardo Burdier) Custodio of Santo Domingo, five brothers, Hector Julio Custodio, Eduard Custodio and Oscar Elias Custodio of Santo Domingo, Ernesto Custodio of San José de Ocoa, DR and Daylers Custodio of Hazleton, PA, and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her brother Angel Antonio Custodio.

Juana's family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, May 4th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial and interment will take place in San José de Ocoa, DR at a later date. washingtonmemorialfh.com
