It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jose Joaquín López Ayala, 70, of New Haven, Connecticut, a beloved husband, father, stepfather, and friend, who left this world peacefully on May 17, 2026 from Yale-New Haven Hospital, York St. Campus. He was born on June 10, 1955, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, a son of the late Joaquín López and the late Maria Cristiana Ayala. Jose was a vibrant soul who brought joy and warmth to everyone he encountered.
Jose was the loving husband of Eulogia de León, and the proud father of Eva Figueroa and José Figueroa. He was also a devoted stepfather to his loving stepchildren: Felix Antonio Báez, Liz Amparo Báez, Clarissa Báez, and Edwin Báez. He embraced his role in their lives with love and dedication, attending school functions and creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
A skilled mechanic and carpenter, Jose was known for his dedication to his work, particularly in making skids at a local factory. His hands were not just tools of his trade; they were instruments of kindness. A peaceful man at heart, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, embodying the true spirit of generosity.
Jose's legacy extends to his beloved grandchildren, Siul Marie Figueroa and Mary Marie Figueroa, as well as his great-grandchildren, Kay and Alyah Liza. He is also survived by six sisters and two brothers, who will forever cherish the love and memories they shared.
His joyful spirit often found expression through dance, filling every room with laughter and light, and leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him.
In his journey of faith, Jose accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, finding strength and solace in his beliefs. His faith guided him in his daily life, inspiring those around him to live with compassion and love.
As we remember Jose, we celebrate a life filled with service, kindness, and unwavering love. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and generosity that will continue to inspire us all. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
In loving memory, we honor Jose Joaquín López Ayala, a truly remarkable man who will be deeply missed by all.
