Juan Gabriel Garcia Paulino, 40, of New Haven, Connecticut, formerly of the Bronx, New York died peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael Campus on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Gabriel was born in San Francisco de Macorís, Duarte, Dominican Republic on June 14, 1985, a beloved son of Juan Maria Garcia Then and Maria Leonora Paulino Rosario of San Francisco de Macorís. He had resided there for much of his life before moving to the Bronx in 2007 where he lived for sixteen years before moving to New Haven two and one half years ago.
From his earliest years, Gabriel stood out as a loving, respectful child, deeply devoted to his family. He grew up alongside his siblings, Xioney, Evelin, Jan Carlos, Laura Maria and Norberto, forging bonds that would forever shape his life.
In his youth, Gabriel was an outgoing, curious, and vibrant young man. Always committed to his family, he left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. At the age of twenty, with courage and hope Gabriel embarked on a journey to the United States in search of a better future. Along the way, he received one of the greatest gifts of his life: his daughter Alexa Gaccia Toribio, whom he considered, in his own words, his greatest achievement and his greatest blessing.
At twenty one, Gabriel faced an accident that changed the course of his health, however, he never allowed circumstances to define his spirit. Gabriel taught us, through his example, what perseverance means. Despite the difficulties, he always maintained a smile, was always willing to help, and never expected anything in return.
Today, when we remember him, countless qualities come to mind, but one stands out above all others: his strength in the face of adversity. Gabriel faced every obstacle with optimism, faith, and an attitude that inspires us all.
He was a joyful person who loved life and found light even in the most difficult moments. He enjoyed music, spending time with loved ones, and the small moments that make life great. His faith in God was unwavering. In every stage of his life, he placed his trust in Him, humbly accepting his trials and maintaining his unwavering faith until his last breath.
Today we say goodbye to a man who loved deeply, who lived with purpose, and who left an indelible mark on our hearts. A loving, dedicated, honest, respectful and vibrant man. May his legacy of strength, faith and love remain with each of us. Rest in peace, Gabriel.
In addition to his parents, Gabriel is survived by his daughter, Alexa Garcia Toribo of Newark, NJ, three sisters, Mary Xioniy Paulino, Evelin Garcia Valerio and Laura Maria Garcia Rojas, and two brothers, Jan Carlos Garcia Valerio and Norberto Garcia all of San Francisco de Macorís. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Gabriel's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, April 17th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. Words of comfort will be shared during visitation time. Burial will be private. washingtonmemorialfh.com
