Joyce M. (Morrissey) Morrell

Joyce M. Morrell, 89, of North Haven, CT died peacefully on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford surrounded by love. She was the wife of the late Edward J. Morrell, Sr.. Joyce was born in New Haven, CT on January 22, 1934, daughter of the late John Morrissey and Elizabeth Morrissey, and had resided in North Haven for the past sixty-two years. She worked for many years as a secretary at Central Rigging and AT&T/Lucent Technologies. She was an avid reader and belonged to several book clubs during her retirement years in Estero, Florida where she wintered with her beloved late husband for many years at their vacation home. She loved crossword puzzles, and was an expert at the NY Times editions. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to many locations, including her beloved Ireland, however her most cherished moments were spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchild. Joyce had a kind, loving spirit, a good sense of humor and a flair for fashion. Joyce is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Morrell Hoffman and her husband Jerry of North haven, two sons, Edward J. Morrell, Jr. and his wife Valerie of Guilford and Timothy Morrell of North Haven. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, and one great grandchild, Kristen Hoffman Mellaci and her husband Joseph, and their daughter Lucy Joyce, Dr. Justin Hoffman and his wife Jennifer, Jesse Hoffman and his wife Stephanie, Brian Morrell, Hailey Morrell and Timothy Morrell, Jr. She was predeceased by her husband Edward J. Morrell, Sr., daughter Julie Morrell Keefover and her mother Elizabeth Morrissey. Joyce’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, August 30th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 31st at 10:00 a.m. in St. Barnabas Church (St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish) 44 Washington Ave., North Haven followed by graveside services at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
