Jovino Rodríguez, Jr., 64 of New Haven died peacefully on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with his loving family by his side. Jovino was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico on April 11, 1956, a son of the late Jovino Rodríguez, Sr. and the late Catalina Morales, and had resided in New Haven since 1981. Jovino was an auto mechanic. He owned and operated the former Union Motors of New Haven for fifteen years until 2010. Jovino was a self-taught auto mechanic who was willing to share his knowledge with others in the community who were willing to learn. Auto racing was his passion, and he built and raced his own cars. Jovino was loved and held in very high esteem throughout the community. He is survived by two daughters, Yaritza (Alberto) Rodríguez Roman of New Haven and Nancy (Scott Kelly) of North Haven, one son, Alex (Jenna) Rodríguez of Hamden, two sisters, Luz N. Rodríguez of Camden, NJ and Carmen D. Rodríguez of Hatillo, Puerto Rico, four brothers, Angel Rodríguez and Norberto (Daisy) Rodríguez of New Haven, and José Luís Rodríguez and Juanito (Maria Pagán) Rodríguez of Hatillo, six grandchildren, Zabrina, Nathaly and Caitlyn Roman, Christian Mercado and Alex J. and Jaden Rodríguez, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Benjamin Rodríguez. Jovino’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, April 3rd from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven.
