Jovani David Ortíz

Jovani David Ortíz, 19, of New Haven, CT died suddenly at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Monday, November 20, 2023. Jovani was born in New Haven on November 26, 2003, the beloved son of  Melinda Ortíz of New Haven and Luís Díaz of Hamden. Jovani was a lifelong city resident, and attended High School in the Community, receiving his diploma this past June. He loved video games and playing basketball, and had most recently worked at Target in Milford. In addition to his parents, Jovani is survived by his step-mother Ana González of Hamden, four sisters, Jaslyn Cruz of Derby, Analiz Díaz and Dennise Díaz of Hamden and Jada Parker of New Haven, four brothers, Joshua Cruz of East Haven, Rafael Serrano of New Haven and Luís Díaz and Yadiel Díaz of Hamden, his maternal grandfather Luís R. Ortíz and his paternal grandparents Norma del Valle of New Haven and Orlando Díaz of Boston, MA, aunts Lisandra Ortíz, Maritza (Mario Lecleres) Díaz, Jennifer Pérez and Gennete Pérez, all of New Haven and many loving cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother Juanita Ortíz and his uncle Louis Ortíz. Jovani's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, November 24th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, November 25th at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. washingtonmemorialfh.com
