José Miguel Avila, Sr.

José Miguel Avila, Sr., 41, of New Haven, CT died suddenly on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, York St. Campus. José was born in New Haven on May 11, 1984, a son of Miguel Angel Avila of Beverly Hills, FL and Lourdes Marrero of New Haven, and was a lifelong city resident. 

He had previously worked for the City of New Haven, Dept. of Public Works, and currently was working for a property investment company. 

Miguel was a kind and humble man with a heart full of love. Family meant everything to him. He was an amazing dad who loved his kids, as well as a loving son, brother, fiancé and friend. He treated everyone with respect and kindness, and anyone who met him could feel the goodness of his heart.

Miguel loved to fish, travel, and spend time with the people he loved most. Whether he was casting a line by the water or planning a trip with his family, Miguel was happiest when surrounded by love, laughter, and good memories. He was the kind of man who would give his last just to see someone smile.

Though Miguel's life was cut short, the love he gave will live forever in our hearts. His presence will always be felt in the memories his loved ones hold, the laughter they shared, and the lessons he left behind.

"Dear Lord, thank You for blessing us with Miguel's life. Please welcome him with open arms, and grant him eternal peace. Watch over his children, fiancé, and entire family. Give them strength and let them feel his love all around them in every sunrise, in every gentle breeze, and in every quiet moment. May his spirit continue to guide and protect those he loved so deeply."

Miguel is also survived by his fiancé with whom he resided, Korina Carmona, his daughter Jenalya Zai Avila and two sons, Robert Alexi Torres and José Miguel Avila, Jr., his paternal grandmother Aida Avila, sister Swinda Avila, brother, Misael Avila, all of New Haven, his step-mother Ana "Gigi" Lebrón of Beverly Hills, FL, and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather Raul Avila and his maternal grandparents José and Josefina Marrero. He will be forever loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.

Miguel's family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, October 12th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Radiant Star of Jacob Christian Church (Iglesia Cristiana Estrella Resplandeciente de Jacob), 185 Chapel Street, New Haven. A funeral service will take place during visitation time. A prayer service will take place at the church on Monday, October 13th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
