José Antonio Santiago Rodríguez, 65 of New Haven died suddenly at his home on Thursday, August 26, 2021. José was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico on May 6, 1956, a son of the late Juan Santiago and the late Margarita Rodríguez, and had resided in New Haven for the past thirty one years. He was a machinist for several area manufacturing companies for many years, including the former Marlin Firearms of North Haven and Olympic Steel of Milford, retiring in 2007. José is survived by four daughters, Betzaida "Betzy" (Orlando Rodríguez) Santiago and Arelis (Christian Ferrer) Santiago of New Haven, Ivelisse "Ivy" Santiago of West Haven and Yomaira (Christopher) Modzelewski of East Haven, one son, Joel Santiago of New Haven, five sisters, Carmen (Narciso Torres) Santiago, Maribel (Carlos Torres) Santiago, and Sonia Santiago of Trenton, NJ, Eva Santiago of Allentown, PA, and Lydia (Ramón) García of Mt. Holy, NJ, one brother, Lucas Santiago Rodríguez of Carolina, Puerto Rico, his former wife, Nancy Vélez of New Haven, and nine grandchildren, Nadia, Orlando, Christina, Carmine, Isabella, Iliana, Nelson, Christian and Luís.. He was predeceased by three sisters, Iris, Tomasa and Judy Santiago, and one brother, Rubén Santiago. José's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, September 2, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at 7:00 p.m.; the Reverend Joel Díaz officiating. Burial will be private. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com.
