John Anthony Vischio, Sr., 87, of Hamden, CT died peacefully at Connecticut Hospice, Branford on Monday, December 18, 2023 with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Lou Zeoli Vischio. John was born in New Haven, CT on May 30, 1936, a son of the late Giovanni and Immacolata “Margaret” Fiori Vischio, and was a lifelong Hamden resident. He was an iron worker for New England Iron Works of Hamden for more than twenty five years and former member of the National Iron Workers Union, and later worked as an hydraulic mechanic for Hydraulic Air Co. of North Haven for twenty five years, retiring in 2003. John is survived by his daughter Lori (Wayne) Edmunds of Cheshire, his son John A. (Anna) Vischio, Jr. of Southington and six grandchildren, Madison, Marley and Macey Edmunds and Emma, Tessa and Isabella Vischio. He was predeceased by three sisters, Jean Vivienzo, Christina Wallace and Lucy DeStefano, and six brothers, Daniel, Angelo, Nicholas, Joseph, Edward and Albert Vischio. John’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, December 22nd from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral cortege will depart the funeral home on Saturday, December 23rd at 9:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church (St. Paul VI Parish), 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Hamden.
