Joel Martínez, Jr.

Joel Martínez, Jr., 28, of New Haven, Connecticut died suddenly on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Joel was born in New Haven on May 30, 1998, a son of Joel and Lizbeth (Méndez) Martínez, Sr. of Hamden, and was a lifelong New Haven resident. He was fork lift operator for Adusa Distribution of Manchester, and was a 2016 graduate of Metropolitan Business Academy of New Haven.

In addition to his parents, Joel is survived by his two beloved daughters, A'lani Linette Martínez and Aliyah Linette Martínez of New Haven, a brother, Jandiel Martínez of Hamden, his paternal grandparents Jorge and Awilda Martínez of Cayey, Puerto Rico, his girlfriend and mother of his daughters Amarilis Vázquez of New Haven, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Marcos Méndez and Georgina Guzmán.

There are no words that could ever truly capture the kind of man Joel was or the impact he had on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was a loving father, devoted son, caring brother, proud uncle, loyal friend, and someone whose heart knew no limits. If you needed him, he was there—without hesitation. He would have given you the shirt off his back, expecting nothing in return. That was simply who he was.

Joel had a way of lighting up every room he walked into. His smile could brighten even the darkest days, and that little smirk of his was something everyone who knew him will never forget. His smile, his laugh, his wisdom, and his presence made people feel safe, valued, and loved. He had a way of bringing joy wherever he went, making others smile without even trying. He always knew the right thing to say and never stopped believing in the people around him. He encouraged others to keep going, reminded them of their worth, and gave advice that came from a place of genuine love.

Above everything else, Joel was a proud girl dad. His daughters were his greatest joy and his biggest motivation. Everything he did was with them in mind. He dreamed of giving them the best life possible and worked every day to build a brighter future for himself, his family, and especially his baby girls. His love for them was unconditional and unwavering. He also adored his nephews and treasured every moment he got to spend with them.

Joel was one of the smartest people you could meet, filled with dreams, ambition, and a vision for a better tomorrow. He was constantly striving to become the best version of himself, putting God first, dedicating himself to his fitness journey, and working hard to build the life he envisioned for himself and his family. He had so many goals, so many dreams, and so much more he wanted to accomplish. No matter what challenges he faced, he always believed in God’s timing. His faith gave him hope, strength, and the confidence that everything would unfold exactly as it was meant to.

What made Joel truly extraordinary was his selflessness. He cared for everyone, even those he had just met. He loved deeply, forgave easily, and gave endlessly. He made people feel seen, heard, and important, leaving a lasting impact on every life he touched. He never asked for recognition or anything in return because helping others simply came naturally to him.

Though our hearts are broken beyond words, we take comfort in knowing that Joel’s love, faith, kindness, and beautiful spirit will continue to live on through his daughters, his family, and everyone blessed enough to know him. His legacy is not only found in the memories he leaves behind, but in the countless lives he changed simply by being himself.

We will forever remember your smile that could light up any room, that unmistakable little smirk, your unwavering faith, your generous heart, and the unconditional love you gave so freely. We will hold onto the lessons you taught us, trust in God’s timing just as you always did, and carry your light with us every day.

You will be loved forever, missed beyond measure, and remembered always.

Joel's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, July 10th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven.
