Jennifer Sanjurjo, 38, of East Haven, CT died peacefully on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with her loving family by her side. Jennifer was born in New York City on December 22, 1984, a daughter of Carmen Díaz of East Haven and Efrain Alicea of New Haven. She grew up in New Haven, and had resided in East Haven for the past seventeen years. Jennifer was a 2002 graduate of Wilbur Cross High School, and received her Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Albertus Magnus. Jennifer had an infectious smile that will live on in our fondest memories. She spent the majority of her time surrounding herself with the ones she cherished most, her life partner Andy Shapiro of New Haven, family, friends, and always took great pleasure in spoiling her nieces, nephews and godchildren. Jennifer had a love for watching various movie series such as Rocky, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, and was an avid supporter of Marvel's Iron Man. She loved attending live sporting events, though most of the time she did not know what was going on or who the teams were playing. Jennifer also had a passion for traveling and became an avid world traveler, having explored multiple countries across the globe. Jennifer worked for the New Haven Health Department's Bureau of Environmental Health for approximately two decades. She began her career interning as a college student, and later progressed to the role of Program Manager of New Haven's HUD funded Lead Hazard Control Program. Jennifer later became known across the country, especially in Washington, D.C. for her role in the program. Jennifer is also survived by two brothers, Angel Manuel (Stephanie Miller) Sanjurjo of East Haven and Efrain (Fallon Haynes) Alicea of New Haven, four nieces and nephews, Andrew Sanjurjo-Panzo of East Haven, and Tatiana Alicea, Kamryn Carter and Kaiden Carter of New Haven, and her godchildren Janiyds Fayful-Lees of New Britain and Dominic Couverthier of New Haven. Jennifer's family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, November 4th from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven.
