Jean Rodríguez, 84 of New Haven died suddenly on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was the beloved wife of sixty eight years to Carlos Rodríguez. Jean was born in Tazewell, West Virginia on July 14, 1937, a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Altizer Dunford, and had resided in New Haven for the past seventy one years. She was a private caregiver to the elderly for many years, and worked at the New Haven Country Club for many years, retiring in the late 1980’s. Jean loved children and was the neighborhood mom. She often tended to and looked after many of the children in the area who loved to come visit her. Jean is survived by three daughters, Elisa M. Rodríguez and Debra Rodríguez of New Haven, and Barbara (Estéban Méndez) of East Haven, five sons, Carlito (Gail) Rodríguez of Turner, ME, Miguel A. Rodríguez, Roberto “Tito” Rodríguez and Carlos A. Rodríguez of New Haven and José Ortíz of Southington, her cousin Loretta Dial Dunford of VA, twenty four grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren, and many other loving cousins in West Virginia. She was predeceased by her grandson Marcelino “Marky” Rivera. Jean’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, October 18th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. Her funeral procession will leave from the funeral home on Tuesday, October 19th at 10:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:00 at St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish (St. Bernadette Church), 385 Townsend Ave., New Haven.
