Isabella (Fusco) DeStefanis entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at the age of 74. She was born in Formicola (Prov. of Caserta), Italy in 1950 and immigrated to the United States in 1959 with her family. Isabella resided in New Haven until 1974 when she married and moved to Hamden, CT. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Carmine of 47 years. She leaves behind her cherished son Vincent, her wonderful daughter-in-law Ania and her cherished grandchildren Paolo and Valentina. Isabella was also predeceased by her parents Gabriele and Carmela (Stanga) Fusco, and her father-in-law Vincenzo and mother-in-law Petronilla (DiFrancescantonio) DeStefanis. Isabella leaves behind her wonderful sisters and their spouses Maria (Raffaele) Moniello and Giovanna (Dr. Paul) Acampora, her dynamic in-laws Giancarlo (Maria) DeStefanis and sister-in-law Pia Eskew, 11 nephews and nieces, 7 grandnephews, and 2 grandnieces, as well as numerous cousins in Italy, Saratoga, NY, and New Haven, CT. Isabella was a teacher at Trumbull Board of Education for 39 years. She taught Italian, Spanish and EEL (a program she initiated at the High School Level). She received a BS in Spanish and Italian, a Master’s Degree in ELL, and a 6th year in Administration/Supervision, all at SCSU. Her greatest passions were traveling with her husband, teaching and spending time with her immediate and extended family as well as longtime friends. She loved reading, shopping nd partaking in her grandchildren’s activities. Isabella had a keen, if occasionally, risqué sense of humor and enjoyed sharing jokes with others. She possessed a strong gift for making people laugh with a kind heart and loving spirit. She held many important roles that formed the tapestry of her life such as daughter, wife, mother, sister, teacher, friend, sister-in-law, Zia and especially that of NONNA. The DeStefanis family wishes to than her team of Doctors and her daily caretakers for their expertise as well as their unconditional support throughout her lifetime. In lieu of flowers (if you wish) a donation may be made to the Diabetes Foundation, Wounded Warriors, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, all charities close to her heart. Isabella’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, June 7th from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. Her funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 12:00 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, (St. Paul VI Parish), 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. washingtonmemorialfh.com
