Gustavo Portilla, 61 of New Haven, formerly of Hamden and Bridgeport died peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Tarcila Medina. Gustavo was born in Morona Santiago de Méndez, Ecuador on December 8, 1958, a son of the late José Portilla and the late Concepción López. He immigrated to the United States in 1997, settling in New York City for several years, before moving to Bridgeport for eight years, Hamden for two years, and New Haven for the past eleven years. He was a chef at Lasse’s Restaurant, Milford for the past eight years. In addition to his wife Tarcila, Gustavo is survived by a daughter, Nathalia (Jhony Florés) Portilla of New Haven, two sons, Henry (Sorbeda Merchan) Portilla of Morona Santiago de Sucua, Ecuador and Geovanny (Digna Lemos) Portilla of New Haven, three sisters, Carmela Portilla of New Haven, Fanny Portilla of Morona Santiago de Sucua, and Blanca (Napoleón del Gado) Portilla of Cuenca, Ecuador, one brother, Jofre Portilla of New Haven, and six grandchildren, Samanta, Ashley, Emely and Henry Portilla, and Sharel and Jhafe Flores. Gustavo’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, November 11th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven.
