Gregoria Goitía, 90 of New Haven, CT formerly of Hamden, CT and the Bronx, NY died peacefully on Monday, February 10, 2020. She was the beloved wife of the late José Manuel Goitía. Gregoria was born in Canovas, Puerto Rico on November 17, 1929, a daughter of the late Eugenio Encarnación and the late Gregoria Vargas. She moved to New York City in 1945 and resided in the Bronx for many years before moving to Hamden in 2009. She had resided in New Haven since 2017. Gregoria's first job was in a costume jewelry plant in New York City. She then was the administrator for Immaculate Conception Church in the Bronx, a toll collector for the New York Port Authority, and later worked in the meat department at A&P Supermarkets in New York City. Gregoria also worked in the library of the High Scholl of Law and Government in the Bronx, and lastly worked for CVS Pharmacies in Hartford, CT. Gregoria is survived by a daughter, Frances Padilla and her husband John of New Haven, a son, Luís Goitía and his wife Carmen of Colchester, CT, one sister, Flor Maria Encarnación of Rio Grande, PR, six grandchildren, Alex (Joy) Padilla of Brooklen, NY, Ivonne Padilla and Daniel (Tana) Soler of New Haven, Matthew Goitía of New Britain, CT, Luís Miguel Goitía of Colchester and Miguel (Autumn) Soler of Murfressboro, TN, and four great-grandchildren, Camille and Marquez Padilla, and Daniel and Lilly Belle Soler. She ws predeceased by two sons, Danny and Frederick Soler, a grandson, Frederick Anthony Soler, two sisters, Maria Eugenia and Gloria Esther Encarnación, and four brothers, Angel Luís, Eugenio, Marcos and Fernando Encarnación. Gregoria's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, February 14th from5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m., the Reverend Timothy Meehan officiating. Burial will be private. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
