Gladys Then Duran, 87 of New Haven died peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with her loving family by her side. Gladys was born in Tenares, Dominican Republic on August 15, 1933, a daughter of the late Felix Hungaria Then and the late Angelica Duran. She came to the United States in 1973, and resided in New York City for eighteen years before moving to New Haven thirty years ago. Gladys was a retired seamstress, having worked in the garment district in New York City for many years. Gladys is survived by two daughters, Esther Rizek Then and her husband Francisco Pérez of Belton, TX and Damaris Alejandrina Rizek Then of New Haven, three sons, David Nazario Rizek Then and his wife Yolanda of Hamden, Elias Joel Rizek Then of New Haven and José Rafael Rizek Then and his wife Flor Mireya Prieto Gómez of Franklin, NC, fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters. Gladys' family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, January 27th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, January 28th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
